Momose, a Lithuanian craft granola brand, launched its rebranded series of products in recyclable stand-up pouches. “Changing our packaging from a non-recyclable, transparent, labeled package to a fully-printed, recyclable, branded stand-up pouch has helped to significantly boost our sales and improve our sustainability image in the market.” said Sarunas Gaisys, Director at Momose.

The recyclable pouches were designed, developed, and produced by Printela, a local digital flexible packaging converter with a full Digital Pouch Factory setup, based on an HP Indigo 20000/25K press. “We helped Momose rethink their stands-up pouches for an eco-friendlier approach and rebrand their products with Polysack’s Pack ‘N’ Cycle MOPE film and our digital pouch factory.” explained Valdas Buksnys, General Manager at Printela.

Previously, Momose packaging was made of multi-material clear pouch with a pressure-sensitive label on it, to differentiate between the various flavors. With the strong market shift to sustainability, and the support of Polysack, Printela offered a fully recyclable mono-material, pouch that is fully printed on HP Indigo digital press. “For sustainability, picking the right digital printing process is as important as selecting the right films.” outlined Yifat Ziv, Flexible Packaging Segment Manager at HP Indigo.

The MOPE film from Polysack replaced a BOPET film as the external layer in the pouch structure and enabled its recyclability. “Modern consumers demand sustainable packaging. Converters such as Printela have innovated with our Pack ‘N’ Cycle materials to make existing pouches recyclable. Flexible packaging converters who embrace this change will gain more business and advance the industry.” stated Yair Gellis, Polysack’s VP Marketing and Business Development.

The Momose Superfoods Story

Founded in 2020, Momose superfoods is owned and operated by two families. The company produces premium products for distributors, shops, and retailers throughout the European Union. Momose specializes in making premium quality, unique recipe and is particularly known for its healthy and tasty granola.

“The history of MOMOSE Granola begun in 2020. As a result of the global situation of Covid-19, we have been unable to develop our coffee activities. We didn’t want to lay off our beloved and hard-working kitchen staff, so we came up with the idea of making natural granola. That was certainly a challenge for us! Our goal was to create a healthy and delicious product made from natural ingredients. A product that we and our children would proudly consume. Our long journey has begun; we chose products, tested recipes, wrote technology cards, tasted and now believe we have succeeded. Presently, we offer six different types of granola.“

“Granolas made by us are not only healthy, but also delicious. Only natural ingredients are used to produce these products, which are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and low in sugar. The nutrient-rich granola is suitable for athletes, kids, gluten-intolerant people, vegans, vegetarians, as well as anyone who values a healthy diet.”

A Q&A with MOMOSE

Why did you make the switch to recyclable pouches?

  • We believe this is the future of plastic packaging, and we want to be environmentally conscious, so that is why we chose this packaging

What was Printela’s contribution to this shift?

  • Printela has always been a good partner and provided us with all the information and support we needed

Previously this pouch had a laminated structure that was non-recyclable. What was it?

  • The former packaging for our granola was made of multi-material laminated bags with a label, so it couldn’t be recycled

Can you describe the structure of the recyclable pouch?

  • The new pouch laminate structure is MDO PE 25µ gloss // PE 100µ white. Reverse printed on Polysack’s MOPE 25µ film and laminated with water-based adhesive to a PE 100µ white film
